A The Walking Trade walkthrough is really a milestone order, because the game does not run on story chapters. You start with a dirty storefront, earn batteries, craft and scavenge, and unlock the warehouse, the Hospital and the store expansion in roughly that sequence. This The Walking Trade walkthrough lays out that order stage by stage, with the achievement list as the map and the raid content as the difficulty curve.

Early game: your first days

The opening is fixed. Review coverage describes starting with "nothing but a decaying storefront," clearing the garbage, sweeping the dirt, then shelving, then products, then customers. Treat the first days as a stock-building exercise rather than an expansion one, because every later system depends on goods moving through shelves.

Early achievements confirm the intended loop: Welcome to Retail Hell at 5 customers served, Arts & Crafts on your first craft, Loot Goblin (Part-Time) at 10 scavenges, and Impulse Buyers when you build a Basket Stand. Keep sending scavengers out even when the shop looks fine, because the review notes they often come back with nothing useful and the upgrade parts you need are rare.

The opening hours are cleaning, shelving and stock, in that order

Mid game: warehouse, Hospital and expansion

The mid game is defined by three unlocks, and the achievement list names all of them. Backroom Privileges fires when you gain access to the warehouse, and Backdoor Access then requires you to fix the Generator inside that warehouse. Open Floor Plan requires hiring the demolition crew to expand your store, and That's What That Noise Was! unlocks access to the Hospital.

Two mid-game habits pay off here. First, buy from the Exotic Merchant when you can, because the purchase is both an achievement and a source of unusual stock. Second, keep your reputation climbing, since Local Legend requires 75% reputation and reputation is easier to protect than to repair. The review also warns that this is where the grind bites hardest, citing hours of scavenger runs and 96 sawblades for the recycler.

Late game: raids, reputation and Hardcore

By the late game the shop runs itself well enough that the threats dominate. Review coverage describes zombies that wander into the lot and wave-based hordes that need a real defence, and the achievements name five distinct attacks: the Zombie Horde in the city, the Brute Army raid, the Broody Birthers raid, the Twin Terrors raid and the Sweaty Rotter raid. Each one unlocks its own achievement, and defeating any raid unlocks Live Another Day!.

  • Defend from the cargo containers with a ranged weapon, per the community guide Easily Win Raids.
  • Take the named raids one at a time rather than triggering several in the same stretch.
  • Keep the Exotic Merchant and Hospital trips for between raids, not during them.
  • Reach 75% reputation for Local Legend before switching difficulty.
  • Finish the normal-save content first, then attempt Hardcore.

Hardcore Mode is the true endgame. Ten Days, Zero Chill requires reaching Day 10 on Hardcore Mode, and No Refunds, No Respawns requires defeating a zombie raid on Hardcore without dying. The community has published guides specifically about saving your game in Hardcore mode, which tells you how much a death costs there. Build stock, guards and ammunition on a normal save, then carry the habit over.

Customer safety runs through the whole walkthrough, so it is worth stating plainly: there is no heal-customer mechanic to unlock at any stage. The only rewarded customer action is saving a customer from an aggressive zombie, which unlocks Customer Comes First during the early game. The medical ward appears in a player suggestion thread asking the developers to make it a real healing service, which means it is a request rather than a stage in the progression (to confirm).

One caution about walkthrough sources. A widely indexed page titled "The Walking Trade: A Beginner's Guide to Surviving the Zombie Business Simulation" is published on a video aggregator and labelled as auto-generated content. Its advice about building shelters, walls, towers, diplomacy and trade routes describes a generic settlement builder, not this store management game, so do not follow it as a The Walking Trade walkthrough.

FAQ

1.Is there a full The Walking Trade walkthrough?

No single official walkthrough exists. The Steam guide library listed 11 guides, including 5 tagged as Walkthroughs, and the achievement list is the most reliable public progression map because every milestone is tied to a permanent unlock.

2.What is the progression order in The Walking Trade?

Stock and serve customers first, then craft, then unlock the warehouse, fix its generator, hire the demolition crew to expand, unlock the Hospital, and push reputation toward 75% while surviving the named raids.

3.How do you unlock the warehouse?

The Backroom Privileges achievement unlocks when you gain access to the warehouse, and the Backdoor Access achievement then requires you to fix the Generator inside it.

4.How do you unlock the Hospital?

The Hospital is gated behind the achievement That's What That Noise Was!, which unlocks when you gain access to it. Reaching the Hospital also requires the store expansion that comes from hiring the demolition crew.

5.When do raids start in The Walking Trade?

Review coverage describes zombies stumbling into the lot during normal play and separate wave-based hordes, so raids are part of the mid game rather than a final boss. Named raids include the Brute Army, Broody Birthers, Twin Terrors and Sweaty Rotter attacks.

6.How do you heal customers during a walkthrough run?

You do not, because no healing mechanic is documented. The only tracked customer action is saving a customer from an aggressive zombie, which unlocks Customer Comes First, so keep guards hired and stop zombies before they reach the aisles.
