Seafarer: The Ship Sim does not currently support mods. There is no Steam Workshop page for the game, no mod tools have been announced, and the only public developer comment on the subject describes modding as something still to be discussed. If you came here looking for extra ships, map packs or a community patch, the honest answer is that none are documented yet — what exists instead is in-game customisation and a built-in fast travel system.
Does Seafarer: The Ship Sim Have Mod Support?
Searching for mods for this game mostly surfaces unrelated tooling, because the game itself ships no modding framework. The Steam store page lists the game's features and does not include Workshop support, and the official feature list on the developer's own site covers multiplayer, fleet progression, vessel customisation, missions, interactive tools and the WaveWorks water — but not modding.
| Modding topic | Documented status |
|---|---|
| Steam Workshop integration | Not present |
| Official mod tools or SDK | Not announced |
| Player-made ships | Not supported; the developer's reply mentions naval vessels and ocean liners are not on the timeline |
| Developer position | Modding is "to be discussed" for the future |
| Current in-game substitutes | Vessel naming, colours, flags and logos, plus a captain character editor |
What the Developer Has Said About Modding
The clearest statement comes from a Steam discussion opened in March 2025 by a player asking what ship types would appear and whether players could add their own. An astragon developer replied that the game would definitely include different kinds of cargo ships, coastguard ships and firefighting ships, that naval vessels and ocean liners were not part of the Early Access timeline, and that modding was also "to be discussed" for the future.
That reply has not been followed by an announced change. If modding arrives, expect it to be announced through the Steam news feed or the official Discord rather than through a launcher update, because that is where the studio has posted every other system change, including the Patch 1.0.1 public beta notes.

What You Can Customise In-Game Today
Until modding exists, the closest equivalents are the tools the game already provides. None of them add new content, but they do change how your fleet reads on the water.
- Rename any owned vessel, and change its colours.
- Apply flags and logos to personalise a hull.
- Use the character editor to design your captain's appearance before a career.
- Choose between story mode and Quickplay rather than installing content packs.
- Extend play with the Voyager Pack and Voyager Edition variants sold on the official storefronts, which are the documented way to add official content.
Fast Travel Instead of Mods
The reason many players look for mods in a sim like this is time: a realistic voyage can be long, and the obvious fix is a mod that speeds the game up. Seafarer already answers that with fast travel, which is a career feature rather than an add-on.
Fast travel unlocks at Level 1 after the full release rebalance, so it is available from the start of a new career. The Patch 1.0.1 public beta added dedicated Fast Travel buttons at harbours and disabled fast travel while you are inside a harbour area, so plan your jump from the dock rather than from the quay. You can also open the Job Menu and use Travel To. In multiplayer, leave Travel To alone for now: the same patch notes list it as a known cause of client crashes, and the issue gets worse over longer distances.

If fast travel is not enough and you specifically want new ships, the realistic options today are waiting for official content or asking for it in the Steam discussions and the official Discord, where the developer has previously answered ship-type questions directly.
FAQ
1.Are there Seafarer: The Ship Sim mods yet?
No official mod support is documented. Steam Workshop is not used by the game, no mod tools are announced, and the developer's only public statement on the subject describes modding as something to be discussed for the future.
2.What did the developer say about modding?
In a March 2025 Steam discussion, an astragon developer said naval vessels and ocean liners were not part of the Early Access timeline and that modding was also "to be discussed" for the future.
3.Can you add your own ships without mods?
Not as new hulls. What the official feature list does offer is customisation of your existing vessels with names, colours, flags and logos, plus a character editor for your captain's appearance.
4.Do you need mods to reduce travel time?
No. Fast travel is a built-in career unlock available from Level 1, with dedicated Fast Travel buttons added to harbours in the Patch 1.0.1 public beta.
